When the Marching Knights take the field, relatively few people know all
the planning, practice, training and effort that goes into each and every
performance. Dozens of dedicated professionals volunteer countless hours
to make the show a wonderful thing to experience. The Marching Knights
have excellent leadership. There are actually several different "leaders"
at different levels. Here's what we have.
Band Director
This year's Band Director is Mr. Bryan Clayton. Mr. Clayton is aided by a
plethora of assistants and directors to facilitate detailed and efficient
rehearsals with the band.
Staff and Assistants
These are dedicated people who work with the students to make it all
happen. This includes the Music Directors, Show Designers, Visual
Directors, and Color Guard Directors. These people are fundamental to
create and shape the show into a work of art.
Elected Officers
Officers are elected from both the band and the color guard.
Drum Majors
The Marching Knights have two Drum Majors, who are elected to their
positions. The Drum Majors lead the band throughout the year. Candidates
are performers from previous years. One is a Senior, the other is a
Junior. These positions contain Enormous responsibility and lots of hard work.
Captains
Captains are officers appointed from among the student leader
candidates. There are two captains, one for the brass section and one for
the woodwinds. They have various responsibilities including managing the
music library and conducting and rehearsal assistance during practice. The
captains are performing members of their sections.
Student Leaders
Student Leaders are appointed heads of each instrumental section in
the band. Candidates go through a training program in the spring and one
or two are selected from each section. Student Leaders are performing
members of the band.
Performers
There are somewhere between one hundred forty and two hundred performers
in the band in any given year. They are grouped based on what instrument
they play or what other way they perform. Each group is referred to as a
"section". There are several sections: Color Guard, Percussion, Woodwinds,
and Brass. These in turn are divided by instrument.
The Organization
Our Organization Page provides an
overall view of our leadership, including who they are and what they do.
